Kim Lane Scheppele

Kim Lane Scheppele is the Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Sociology and International Affairs in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs and the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University. She is also a faculty fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Her research examines the rise and fall of constitutional government, with a particular focus on democratic backsliding, illiberal autocracy, and constitutional stress within the European Union.

Scheppele is the author of Legal Secrets, winner of the Corwin Prize of the American Political Science Association. Her work has appeared widely in social science and law journals across Europe and the United States. She is the recipient of the 2014 Kalven Prize from the Law and Society Association and an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She served as president of the Law and Society Association from 2017 to 2019.
