Assia Boundaoui

Assia Boundaoui is an investigative journalist and filmmaker whose writing has been featured in outlets including the BBC, Al Jazeera, VICE and CNN. Her feature-length directorial debut, “The Feeling of Being Watched,” documented the FBI’s surveillance of the Muslim American community in Chicago, one of the largest counterterrorism investigations ever conducted in the U.S. before 9/11. The film was selected and awarded by numerous film festivals including Woodstock Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and GlobeDocs Film Festival. 

She has produced and contributed to other films including “The Legion” and “Manhunt: The Search for Bin Laden.” Boundaoui is also creative director of the Inverse Surveillance Project. 

Boundaoui has been awarded and recognized by organizations including Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film, the New America National Fellowship, the Livingston Award for national reporting, the Knight-Wallace Fellowship, and the United States Artist award.
