Major Supporters

The Knight Institute was established in 2016 by Columbia University and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

We know that transparency about our donors is important to the credibility of our work. Accordingly, we don't accept major gifts or grants except from donors who are willing to allow us to disclose their support.  Donors who have contributed more than $10,000 to the Knight Institute since the Institute was established in 2016 are:

Arnold Ventures; the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust; the Carnegie Corporation of New York; the Charles Koch Foundation; Columbia University; Abby and Rick Elbaum; the Ford Foundation; the Ford Foundation Dignity and Justice Fund at New Venture Fund; Hearst Foundations; the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation; the Internet and Platform Researcher First Amendment Support Fund at The Miami Foundation; the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; Netgain Partnership, a project of Media Democracy Fund; The Omidyar Group; Open Society Foundations; the Pritzker Pucker Family Foundation;  the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation; and the Zegar Family Foundation.

We are always looking for new sources of funding.  If you would like to support our work, please contact Ralph Scala at [email protected], 212-853-1360.  Or you can make a donation online via Columbia University's giving portal.  The Institute is subject to Columbia University’s policies on gifts. Information about these policies may be found via the University Office of Alumni and Development.

We are grateful to our funders for their past and ongoing support of our work.
