Sydney Levine

Sydney Levine is a research scientist at Google DeepMind focusing on AI safety. She uses the tools and methods of cognitive science to help engineer AI systems to be better aligned with the plurality of human moral values. Levine completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Psychology and the Center for Cognitive Science at Rutgers University and then held a joint appointment as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University and the MIT Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She will start a position as an assistant professor in the New York University Department of Psychology in the spring of 2026, where her lab will work on issues at the intersection of moral cognition and AI safety.
