Gretchen Goldman is the president and CEO of the Union of Concerned Scientists, a science-based advocacy organization. An environmental engineer, Goldman works at the intersection of science and policy, with expertise in federal scientific integrity, climate science and emissions reductions, air pollution exposure and health effects, environmental justice, and the use of science in federal decision-making. She previously served in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as assistant director for environmental science, engineering, policy, and justice, and at the U.S. Department of Transportation as climate change research and technology director. Earlier, she was research director at the organization’s Center for Science and Democracy.
Goldman has testified before Congress and written and spoken widely on science policy. She holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in environmental engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science from Cornell University.
